The 63rd Grammy Awards were held virtually early Monday morning at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California, US. The awards were held on 5 different stages because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

African Giant Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category making it his first Grammy award. In 2019, Burna Boy was nominated in for the same category but lost out to Angelique Kidjo at the awards ceremony in 2020. However, she dedicated the award to him.

When Burna boy was nominated, the Grammys nomination described him as a force that continues to torch limitations, seamlessly blending styles and genres and fearlessly fueling the fire heating the melting pot of pop, Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae and more.

“This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world and this should be a lesson to every African out there no matter who you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it, no matter where you are from because you are king,” Burna said in his acceptance speech.

More highlights from the awards include Wizkid’s Grammy award for his video of Brown Skin Girl which featured in the movie Lion King.

Beyonce also went down in history as the woman with the most Grammy awards. She beat Alison Krauss who previously hello  the title with 27 Grammy awards.
