Share

Over the weekend, MTN Pulse caught up with one of the new talents in the music industry known to his fans as Placid Wozzi a codename from his real name Placid Songolo who is currently in the United States but raised from Najjanankumbi-Kampala, Uganda.

Take us through your career Placid;

On when he joined the music industry…

I started doing music back when I was in primary school with my friends at lunch breaks and after school. My first idea of music was rapping and then later on some other styles started growing up on me. I like diverse music. I like to think I can make any style in music but I’m a big fan of Afro beat, dancehall and rap.

On whether he has a collaboration with any artiste…

Since I’ve started haven’t done any collaboration but open to any person that wants to collaborate with me.

On his favourite artistes in the industry at the moment and why…

My favorite artist right now is Drake because he inspires me so much and he can do most genres of music that’s why I’m a big fan but also like Cardi B because I respect a lot when someone comes from the gutter but fights their way through and now she’s the hottest female rapper in the game.

On his creativity plan to top the game…

My plan to the top is very plain and simple and that is to just do music and move with the wave, if you ride whatever wave that’s on with a good sound I believe people gonna listen to you regardless of their age.

On whether he is signed under any record label..

I’m an independent artiste for now just work with a few producers such as Smart Keyz.

On his take about artistes having managers…

My take on having a manager is not bad as long as you not getting ripped off because most managers tend to manipulate artist and take their money but again if your contract is good you can’t beat up a person with a team.

On his normal day as an artiste…

During my regular day I don’t do a lot, I just go to school, work, and write my music on my work breaks staff like that.

On if he has any projects he is working on at the moment…

I have so many projects coming up that people are going to love, they just have to be patient with me and stay on alert.

His advice to those who are in the industry already and to those who want to join…

My advice to those making music that I also follow is that make good music and the people will listen regardless of where they’re from because music speaks to everyone whether they understand or not and through the process be humble, hard work and never stop writing or being in the studio.
