At only 7 years of age, Graham Shema a student at Kampala International School Uganda is one of the forces to reckon with. He has over time earned the nickname “Captain Shema” due to his impressive aircraft knowledge and flying skills. At such a tender age, Graham has flown three times as a co-pilot and that alone marks the beginning of his dreams.

This little Ugandan boy being sponsored by Elon Musk is one of the luckiest and blessed we have on this land. Yes, I said Elon Musk and this might come as a surprise but if you think about it; Elon Mask’s second home is the Space so it’s safe to say he was intrigued by Graham’s knowledge and passion for aircrafts.

See at his tender age, he has met prominent people over his expression of acquired knowledge in this field. By the end of last year, the Germany’s ambassador and Uganda’s transport minister had invited him for meetings.

A lover of math and science, in the 3 times he has flown as co-pilot, it was on a Cessna 172. He says he wants to be a pilot and an astronaut and he would wish to travel to Mars. “My role model is Elon Musk,” he said. “I like Elon Musk because I want to learn with him about space, to go with him in space and also to get a handshake.”

Shema grew the love for aircrafts when one day a police helicopter flew so low to the ground that it blew off his grandmother’s roof. At that time he was only 3 years but he was intrigued to learn more. His mother In 2019 contacted a local aviation academy and Shema began lessons at home on aircraft parts and aviation vocabulary. After five months of coursework, she paid for practical flying lessons for her son.

For the three times he flew as co-pilot, it was between January and March before the pandemic stopped his practice. He has since been focusing on aviation theory, and immersing himself in videos about aviation and space exploration on his virtual reality viewer.
