Pulse Fashion: What You Need to Know about Bespoke Suits

Latest News | 2021-04-06

From the English dictionary, the meaning of bespoke is presented as plainly and precisely as;
“bespoke (adj.): custom or custom-made, made to order of goods (as distinguished from ready made)”

As such, the word “bespoke” is an adjective version of the word “bespeak” and refers to a client’s custom suit order that couldn’t be ordered by anyone else as it had “been spoken for.”

According to Khan Nados, a designer at The Creative Hub Uganda, a leading maker of Luxury Bespoke Suits, the word came about at a time when most tailors carried very limited quantities of cloth and “it would be unlikely that they’d have enough to make more than one suit out of any one cloth in particular.”

Mr. Nados says Bespoke suits are different from what they term as “custom” suits in the industry even though both of them technically employ an exclusive pattern for the clients.

“Bespoke suits just require so many fittings and during tailoring, they’re fitted with hand padded lapels and hand sewn button holes. In custom suits though, all this can be done by machine.” He said.

As such, according to Nados, the bespoke suits generally command a higher pricing rate in the market but says they’re worth every penny they take.

“One other thing, they’re made to last so many years. So it is perfectly okay, it you plan to wear your bespoke suit once a week – for the whole year. Perfectly okay.” He emphasized.

At The Creative Hub Uganda store located along Luwum Street, the pricing of Bespoke suits ranges from Shs. 300,000 upwards depending on the choice of fabrics that a client chooses.
