Who said that baking cakes is a thing for the ladies? Who said that gents don’t do kitchen work? Who said??? Man….all these stereo types should end. Our hustler today is one who has defied these societal boundaries and is making it big in the world of baking cakes. Meet Ariho Trevor Collins, aka thee_cake_guy aka Saint Trevor.

The MUBS alumnus who pursued a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and small business management is profoundly doing well in all his endeavors and businesses. A case where one applies what he studied to his day-to-day practical work? maybe.

“Why cakes?” we asked Trevor in pursuit of understanding where this love for baking sprung from.

“ I used to work as a sales assistant at Hot loaf bakery and could share cakes, muffins with many of my friends and they started calling me Mr. Cake and so with time I got so fond with selling and baking cakes while at the bakery.

I marketed cakes while at the bakery from 2016 up to 2018 when I was taught production and on 28th Nov, 2019 I started thee_cake_guy franchise. Till today, them cakes have moved to all parts of this Continent.”

See that? He didn’t say country but continent. His business has moved across borders and that can only be attributed to his dedication and hard work.

“It’s so unfortunate that many people feel like it’s soft work and keep saying “you just love women things you man”. But in actual sense baking is hectic and tiresome for example mixing flavor, making fondant icing and being able to calmly receive and work on clients’ orders.” He said expressing his dissatisfaction for the stereotypical nature of the society we live in. At the end of the day it’s all about securing the bag, isn’t it? And nothing was really invented for a specific gender, is there anything?

Like many other businesses, COVID19 has affected Trevor’s hustle especially in the area of acquiring genuine cake materials like flavors, icing sugar types and also other cake compliments. Although business was generally hard at first since many people had not yet appreciated the idea of ordering online, they later picked up and that made work a bit better. Comparing this lockdown to the previous, Trevor thinks business was extremely booming in the first lockdown. Why? It’s something he’s still observing.

“Where I stay, the children welcome me back as the fairy sweet tooth man. However, I support quite a number of young people in my hood doing small businesses and also since last year, I’ve trained over 8 people to bake cakes. With my friends we keep supporting each other through marketing each other’s products and soft money to crack business deals. Trevor said on how he has contributed to impacting his community.

Aside making a killing in baking cakes, saint Trevor does events hosting and he has been throwing parties since his high school. Of recent he has an Afrobeats night called Wild West. A hustler’s spirit never dies. You’d think that would be all from Trevor but no! He is also a fashionista and once in a while organizes trips with his friends.

“Social media has played an immense role in marketing me as a traveler, Fashionista especially Instagram then also the cakes I bake, I put them out for people to see the products. Twitter, spreads the Gospel too well. These days you can exist online and your business too without having a physical location”
