One on one with Raymond

A couple of weeks ago, social media was stormed by a young and brilliant lad who was doing the most random videos on social media like, taking breakfast into space, having paper boats riding on river Nile, amongst other content on his YouTube channel. We meet up with Raymond Kahuma to get story and understand why he vlogs.

Who are you? What is your story?

My name is Raymond Kahuma. I am 23 years old. I am humble, daring, gorgeous, and a You tuber. I did my nursery at Charis day care, Pre-primary at Kampala Junior Academy, Primary at Greenhill academy, secondary at King’s college Budo, and I dropped out of Makerere University where I was doing electrical engineering.

Has your family been supportive? Because not everyone drops out of school and their family smiles at them

Yeah my mother, sister, brother, my vlog partners Jesse, Sidney, my friend and my internet people have actually been super supportive. They literally spam everyone in their contacts and social with my videos when I post them so we get insane views like that. My mother really supports anything I get into, I literally film the podcasts at her house, she gave me a room to transform into the podcast studio. Even with all these weird videos, I always start by asking her, “Mummy how do I get food into space?” We sit down make the plan then she gets me someone’s contact to do this and that and just makes everything happen. She literally calls me every 2 seconds during the shoot to make sure me and the boys are fine. I was actually blessed to have a mother who has like connections through and through, but even more who loves me to death! I can’t thank her enough.

Why YouTube and podcasts and not farming or real estate or betting?

AHAHA, firstly I don’t see the YouTube thing as a business but also I recently changed my mind on this, it’s not that there’s any model of business that’s better than the other, it’s really only about the business that you’re willing to go to the ends of the earth for. Statistically speaking, it’s where you have the best odds at success because you’ll go deeper than anyone else, you’ll stick with it longer than anyone else and be more meticulous with it since it won’t feel like work. For me the best use of my time is video story telling. I literally feel alive when I’m filming, there has never been a better time to be alive than now. We live in the internet age, 2020! People are literally becoming 18-year-old millionaires with Amazon, Shopify, YouTube, Instagram, etc. Farming, real estate etc have their merits, but it’s about you! You have options, pick the one that speaks out the most to you. The best business is the business you pick, ignore EVERYONE else. I can talk business all day lol.

Where do you get the ideas for your vlogs and podcasts because it is unique

Interesting question, I’m an idea guy they come to me all day every day I can’t stop it. Now stylistically, its mostly from my favorite Youtubers, Logan Paul, yes theory, Aiirack, Casey Neitstat and all these super big Youtubers, they’re the best! I hope to meet all of them soon.

What exactly is your plan? To earn from YouTube or to enjoy it and see where it goes?

Yeah spot on, although there’s actually a plan I’m going to ride this wave, build this solid brand, have fun with my friends on the vlog as long as we can. The best way to perform at a high level in any field is to fall in love with the game, money is the by-product. So, I am just riding the wave to see where it all goes.

10 years’ time, where do we see Raymond?

My long term goal is to get super good at telling stories, acting, directing, the material stuff is kind of pointless to me. I’m going to direct and star in some movies, talk shows etc. The vlog might stay with me forever, I just love it too much, the goal is to literally get it to Uganda and Africa at large and eventually the entire world.

Advise to someone who wants to do something in the line of what you do?

Well to be honest I’m not quite sure what my line is, I’m just the fun guy, but for anyone trying to break free of society’s hold, just remember none of that stuff actually matters, no one knows what they’re talking about, adults are mostly wrong, parents are projecting their dreams onto you, I’m not saying that you should disrespect them but you really should be more scared that you have one life only and lastly you’ve got this.
