Latest News | 2019-10-14

The ninth Rugby World Cup is currently happening in Japan and will end on 2nd November with a grand finale. For Uganda, we have strong and passionate rugby players who hope to be able to play in the Rugby World Cup some day and among these players is Ivan Magomu. He is the current captain of the Stanbic Black Pirates.

You can’t be a Ugandan rugby fan if you haven’t heard of this team. Ivan started playing rugby while he was still in Smack in 2008. He has grown as a player from that point and has never looked at playing any other sport but rugby.

Being able to play rugby and study is one hell of a story. Ivan recently graduated from Mukono based university; UCU with a bachelor’s degree in law. He says that balancing sports and academics is not for the faint hearted because you need to create a balance if you are to get the best of both worlds so it involves making a lot of sacrifices to excel at both. Ivan has played games not only in Uganda but some global games as well like the 7’s World cup in San Francisco, Common Wealth Games and the Hong Kong 7’s qualifiers.

Aside from rugby, Ivan is also into agriculture. He grows watermelons and has also ventured into goat rearing. He hopes that his farm grows into a demonstration farm some day. In the next couple of years, he also hopes to venture into politics and with the leadership skills he has exhibited as captain, he will surely make a good leader. As the rugby games continue in Japan, we wish every young rugby player a chance to play in the international world cup because, remember; No Human is Limited.
