Latest News | 2019-04-19
“Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé,” was premiered this week on Wednesday, 17th and according to movie critics, it is the fulfillment of all her ancestors’ (black culture) hopes and dreams. Directed, produced and written by Beyoncé Knowles Carter, the Netflix project was shot over a period of 8 months and is a part concert film, part documentary that looks at the two weekend performances which made her the first black woman to ever headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The film that is filled with quotes from famed black intellectuals and recordings in which the superstar shares how and why her Coachella performance came to be, Cable News Network (CNN) said that “Homecoming” is a love letter to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with the title alone being a reflection of the importance of homecomings on black campuses.
Her superstar rapper husband Jay-Z appears in the film at points where he is seemingly in admiration of his wife as a task master. Beyoncé, in the film, shares her desire to be with her growing family, even as she worked diligently to give her audience the show that had been delayed a year because of her pregnancy.
Bey premiered the documentary with a surprise album release “Homecoming: The Live Album” that according to the New York Times, is a more straightforward recreation of the concert that became known as Beychella and breaks the more than two-hour performance into 40 tracks, many of which are packed with multiple musical references and sections of other songs.
With the MTN Pulse bundles, you can download her song album off Tidal or better still stream and watch the amazingly written movie.
