Yes, I said it. It is some days since the Fast and Furious franchise availed F9 for all and sundry, which is why I waited for the ‘anger’ and ‘disappointment’ among Ugandans to first cool down. And hear me out, please! [Spoiler alert]

I think F9 is a fantastic movie. I know all those scenes Ugandans were making fun of online and frankly any one would say, “don’t suss it ba dia.” But the movie is awesome.

This part has first of all kept the Fast and Furious action pack alive, we began action as soon as the camera started rolling. My favourite characters are Roman Pierce (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej Parker (Ludacris) because they’re there to crack us up and did they wait for the middle of the film? no. Homeboys rolled off immediately.

The plot may have been developed poorly, I think they could have done better. I didn’t feel that they properly brought out that plot twist of Jakob Toretto (John Cena) eventually working with the team. Many of us saw that coming.

But that aside, a fairly good plot with an action packed display and good humour is fantastic any day, if you ask me.

Don’t go about “it was too fictitious.” “Batubaalemu amagezi.” “They’re becoming like Bollywood.” You watched Game of Thrones, you believed in Dragons and Night Walkers. What’s good for the goose must be good for the gander.

I’ve tried so much to not venture so much into the film and spoil for those that haven’t watched the movie, but the synopsis of the film is as follows; Dominic Toretto is living the quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, but they know that danger always lurks just over the peaceful horizon. This time, that threat forces Dom to confront the sins of his past to save those he loves most. His crew soon comes together to stop a world-shattering plot by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered, Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob. The movie was directed by Justin Li.

My personal advice though, watch F9 if you have been reluctant. All those biases aside, it is a fantastic action movie. And you’ll love the humour.
