Pulse Movies: What is Netflix’s Bridgerton All About?

For the last couple of weeks when you are on your Twitter with every scroll you make, the series Bridgerton comes up or a couple of memes referring to the Duke of Hastings will come up. For many of you who have been confused by this, Bridgerton is a Netflix series that was released on Christmas Day 2020.

Bridgerton is currently ranked number two on Netflix worldwide. In its first four weeks, Bridgerton was projected to court more than 63 million households, which would make it Netflix’s fifth biggest original series launched to date.

Bridgerton is based on an eight book series written by Julia Quinn. Shonda Rhimes the magnificent lady behind popular shows like Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, Private Practice, For the People and many others brought Bridgerton from the pages to visuals.

Bridgerton is during the Regency era in England and is about eight siblings and their quest to find long life partners. In the first season that was released, it is focused on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).

In the show, elite families would host formal events where they would present their children and hope that they find suitable partners. Aside from the Bridgerton family, the series is rotates around the Featherington family that lives just across from the Bridgertons.

Just like Gossip Girl, it also has Lady Whistledown, a secret lady in society who knows about almost everyone and she writes newsletters exposing all the scandals and dirt that go on in the town without people noticing.

The plot might seem pretty obvious and predictable first but for the lovers of romance, you will be glued to your screens because aside from the plot in the series. There is a prefect selection in the cast used from the Duke of Hastings to Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury. The setting and choice of clothes in the series really takes you back to the 19th century.

If you’ve not jumped onto the Bridgerton wagon, you need to before season two comes out. Season two is likely to focus on another Bridgerton just like the books that Julia Quinn writes.
