Pulse Rewind: Ntare Old Boys Take League Final to Mbarara

Latest News | 2019-06-18

The Ntare Lions League, a Sunday corporate football league consisting of old boys from Ntare School in Mbarara, beat all odds over the weekend and traveled hundreds of kilometers to play their final at their former school.

The league, that consists of 17 teams made up by various years, initiated a team of girls from their sister school Bweranyangi Girls SSS that they named Bweras FC as part of their Season 10 memorial.

After about four months of playing consistent football at GEMS Cambridge, Butabika, two teams; Nshera that joined Ntare in 2005 and Ebicuncu FC that was founded by members who joined in 1988 locked horns at the final only for the winner to emerge in extra time (penalties) after they drew 0:0 in normal time.

While in Mbarara, they also unveiled their new patron Joseph Matsiko, a managing partner at Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) and donated sports equipment worth millions to the school, among other gestures.

Besides the winners Nshera FC, Kashoro FC (class of 2006) were awarded the Fair Play Award, Akashaba Andrew of Nshera took the best keeper award and Asiimwe Moses of Machando FC bagged both the Top Scorer Award and the Most Valuable Player Award. Team Kafubs’ Dan Crespo also scooped the most improved player award.

Needless to say, the eventual winners, Nshera FC travelled to Mbarara in a customized bus branded with their team names and pictures.

Supporting talent especially sports is very important. This goes without saying that MTN’s sponsorship of KCCA and Ondumparaka to support their talent was extremely noble.
