PULSE WCW: Agatha Ayebare is Exploiting Entrepreneurship Skills With Bakery Start-up

Latest News | 2021-10-20

The most famous quote by Tony Hsieh, the former Zappos CEO, and an all time inspirational quote for any upcoming entrepreneurs and young people in business, is “Chase the vision, not the money; the money will end up following you.”

Our WCW today, Ms Agatha Ayebare, believes that is what has been guiding her ever since she started a side hustle in July, 2019 – two months after she had completed her Bachelors studies in Psychology. She would graduate in January the following year from Makerere University. Venturing into the cake business wasn’t easy for her as she had to compete for market with established bakeries and other start ups that had been there before her and accumulated clientele.

In an interview with MTN Pulse, Ayebare said there is no easy business or hard one as long as you have the passion and zeal to still push on even when you face disappointments. That she entered the business without a get-rich-quick mentality which she says is what has been dragging young people in business down.

“I think business is about maximizing all possible profit ventures. When you make a profit of Shs 100,000, that’s not an indication to celebrate in the bar. Celebrate at home, jump around but don’t spend it lavishly. Invest it again.” Ayebare said.

Ms Ayebare, in normal 8-5 times, is working in the Human Resource Department at The Medical Hub in Kampala who are a conglomerate of Medical Practitioners all brought in the same location. Cake Ish Uganda, her bakery business is what she likes to call a full time hustle because she has the capacity to attend to orders and have them worked on even when she is not physically there.

She advises young people to enable as many sources of income as possible. That in a world where a car has grown to become a necessity, going away from the principles we were taught in High School economics, even a Shs 2M salary is not enough.
