Pulse WCW: “I was Inspired by Various News Anchors” Meet 23 year Old Joan, a Budding Journalist

Latest News | 2021-11-10

Joan Nansikombi is a 23 year old Ugandan English news anchor at Endigyito Radio in Mbarara city, editor and Makeup artist. She has a red-hot burning passion for media in that she has competed in it since way back in school and used it commercially as well. While she was at school she participated in several media expos and won a couple of awards. That’s why she is doing it right now!

She was inspired by various news anchors and she expressed herself vividly, “I wouldn’t say non is Ugandan cause we do have good talent. Toke Makinwa, a Nigerian that has inspired many girls to do what they feel is right for them. She’s a good industrialist. I also love Diana Marua Bahati, a Kenyan Youtuber. She’s a good woman and mother. From Europe, I love Rihanna because she’s advanced from just doing music to legitimate business and it gives me hope of also making it some day.”

Besides media, Nansikombi loves cooking and she does it commercially coupled with watching movies, live band music sometimes.
We asked her where she heads in the next 5 years and she literally blew our minds. Joan is thinking of venturing more into beauty business because there’s money there and lucrative. That’s not big enough because she also intends to sink her fingers into food business as well. That was the serious side! Joan also hopes to build a family and to inspire young girls.

We ask the fluent news anchor what she thinks about Ugandan media and here’s a picture of what she said.
“Uganda has really good media and journalists, but we have so many of bad people who are aiming at defaming and selling fake news for comments and shares. We’re lacking because foreign media are promoting their celebrities and businesses instead of tearing each other down like we are. So we have quite a long way to go!”

Before we could part with the beautiful journalist from Mbarara, she said these words as a small souvenir for young people in Africa.
“Listen up, young women and men; you still have time to get everything you want in life. Work hard, pray and dream. Everything is achievable, just take a step instead of sitting back and expecting things to work out. Get out of your comfort zone; if your dream isn’t big enough to make you afraid, then it’s not good enough. Look out for something challenging and go for it.
Young girls, you shouldn’t rush because once you rush, you’ll crash. You’ll get that iPhone, that family someday but you needn’t get on those porous routes”
