Joan Kem, as she is known to her over 30k followers on twitter, is very many things, one has trouble describing her immense talents and passion for the environment and charity.

We caught up with the smiley 22 year old Kyambogo University alumnus who was so elated to share with the Pulsers what inspires her to do what she does. But what does she do? You may wonder…

“I am an environmentalist and girl child activist with a passion for inspiring others to view the world through my lenses and make it a better place” – Kem proudly said.

For Kem, this is beyond a passion, she is a fully qualified Environmental Technology and Management graduate and carries along with her vast knowledge of the world we live in. But this was not an acquired passion, it was innate. “Growing up in the rural areas of Uganda made me appreciate the environment in it’s natural form,” she added.

It is from her upbringing in the rural areas that she also experienced some of her peers, especially the girls, suffer challenges due to poverty and violence.

“One time in my Primary Seven at school I saw a classmate who was in her periods clean up after her self using banana fibres, that has stayed with me till today and has inspired me empower young girls across the country by donating to them through my ‘Take her back to school’ campaign.”

Joan is not shy about her humble background because it has shaped her into the person she is today. She advises fellow pulsers to educate themselves through reading vastly, paying attention to the trends around them and watching relevant programs on television.

About that Pulser who feels like they are not in position to contribute to our environment, Joan advises thus;

“I think it can never be too much if someone is actually pursuing what they want in life. So I would advise a Pulser to put in love for something they really want to do, never let anyone or anything demotivate them and also discover things that can be beneficial to the society we live in”

On top of her tree planting campaigns and girl child empowerment, Joan is also passionate about reaching out to people affected by natural calamities like floods and landslides.

It is never too late to catch up and do the things you’ve always wanted to do especially those shaped by your background. To catch up with Joan Kem on social media, simply load yourself pulse data bundles  by dialing *157#.
