They have been in the news for a good time now, and we are sure you have all heard about them. Top Bloggers Uganda (TBU) – an association uniting all Bloggers in the country recently had leadership transition that saw Robert Sebunya take over from Mathias Ssemanda.

Well, in case you’re just seeing this, Sebunya took over the leadership of the association after being seconded unanimously by the TBU members in their Annual General Meeting that took place on Saturday August 21st.

Hitherto, the Association had been steered by Makerere University Head of Digital Communications Mathias Ssemanda for 2 years.

Mr. Sebunya has expressed good will to steer the association and seems to be excited to take the role. In his own words, everyone in the industry loves a good challenge and it is no different with him.

“I know it’s going to be a very challenging role but like all of us here, we love a good challenge whether it comes by the pen, by the kodak lenses, or the democratized creativity of our mobile devices, we all face challenges and beat them by all odds,” Sebunya said.

On what he promises to do different with the association to move them from where he picked on from, Sebunya said he has three action points to advance his contribution. He split the said action points into; capacity building for the association, strengthening structures and building a well-oiled ecosystem.

His role involves uniting and organizing Bloggers and content creators to advance the Association’s goals and mission. Some of the association’s to-do includes addressing the challenges faced by the current young generation in Uganda; rising unemployment, lack of a safe space to share ideas and network face to face or remotely, and the increasing misuse of the digital space and social media.

“Together with the different committee, our work is going to be to build the capacity of content creators and the different digital practitioners in their domains of practice to a level of regional and global thought leadership.” He said in his election statement.
