Social Media Queen: Faiza Debunks the Myth that You Must Live Lavish, Look Good to Thrive Online

Latest News | 2021-04-01

You’ve seen her on MTN platforms hosting the fun packed Pulse Vibe and most recently at the launch of the MTN Pulse Nation. Our queen today, Faiza alias Faizafabz is clearly not new to you if you’re an avid Pulser.

Ms Faiza did most of her earlier schooling in Jinja (Primary and O-level), had her A-level in Kampala and in April- this month, she’ll be graduating with a Bachelors in Mass Communication from Kampala International University (KIU).

On her work journey in the media, Faiza intimated to Pulse that she started working when she was just 16 years (writing for a teens magazine.)

“Writing sort of inspired my love for media and journalism. I have since worked with NBS TV, Magic1HD, Urban TV and I am currently working with XFM as their morning show host on XAM. It is hectic getting up at 4am but I love every bit of radio.” A chuckling Faiza told Pulse.

She also works as an events host, digital influencer, voice over artist, and writer among a long list of abilities in the creative arts. As an influencer, Faiza has worked with MTN Uganda, NBL, UTB, ShellUG, Sparkles Salon and the list is growing each day.

Faiza says her most favourite social media platform is Twitter and her love story isn’t so different from all others.

“When I joined twitter, I didn’t understand it and left the platform only to get back and completely love it. Twitter is a thriving place for conversations, driving thoughts around different social and economic subjects and you’ll have to admit; it’s a great place for fun, jokes and interesting content from its users.” She said.

She described the platform as a place where the most witty, socially awkward, humorous and thought leaders thrive. She credits it for not discriminating because of looks or lifestyle like the other social media platforms.

“I didn’t think you could get people who think alike, love and adore you,  follow you religiously like on social media. I have gained true friends and fans on my social media. Social media has also proved to be the jelly to the butter on my bread. It’s a great side hustle.” Faiza says.

She says her first influencing gig off Twitter came through a fellow user Gad Rogers and she has since gone on to gain so many others because of her following across all the social media platforms and her content.

Something she has grown to hate on social media is the myth that has been popularized by users that to be popular; you must live lavish, look great and seem like a happy person which is commonly seen on other social media sites like instagram and snapchat.

“It creates this fake perception that everyone wants to build around their lives yet they are struggling to maintain such lifestyles. I believe it’s okay to be YOU and be honest about your life, struggles and achievements. It’s only human to do so.” Faiza advised.

She advises Pulsers that look up to her and would want to pursue her line of work to believe in themselves and cheer for themselves the most.

“Everyone has heard this but you can’t be great until you see the King/Queen in you and what you are capable of becoming. A personal mantra that I like to share with everyone – Have faith in God and [remember] that He has your back. Do your part and put in the work then let God take over where you can’t control.”

Faiza also insists that hard work is a game changer. That once you get out of the comforts of life and clearly aim at making life better for yourself, you’ll achieve everything you set out to do.
