For long architecture has been one of the most prestigious professions, still is to be honest, that many of us aspired to be while growing up. First things first, can you pronounce ‘architect’? If you can’t well I will announce to you that it is as serious as it sounds. Imagine coupling architecture with modeling? That’s not a very common combo but it is what Denise Menya aka Nizzie aka Umutesi does.

Denise is a 23 year old RIBA part one architect and a freelance commercial model who is living in Manchester, UK and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Architecture and doubling as an Amazon UK Student ambassador. I can’t stop imagining the size of her “plate” on her busiest days.

To be able to balance school, work and modeling, one has got to be level-headed.

“I will not lie there are weeks I have found myself overwhelmed with everything I have on my plate but creating a schedule for myself and actually respecting my time allocations has gone a long way for me,” Denise explained how she manages her time.

She has been in the modeling industry since 2016, and thank God for social media her Instagram page is a reflection of what she has evolved into over the years of this journey; a good model. She has worked with different people in this field particularly Madkollection and Ofuure fabrics which are Ankara fabric brands. I know what you are thinking “Africa to the world” oh yesss!!

I don’t think models and modelling in general get the appreciation they deserve. The time, effort, creativity put into delivering the best and unique concepts is not a thing to take for granted. It sure isn’t easy as it sounds. We must applaud Denise for balancing these two hard worlds she juggles on a daily.

This young pulser is on a journey and she hopes that one day she will eventually get to work with more agencies that will sign her up. She also looks forward to the day when she will start working with Ugandan modeling agencies.
