“The Media Doesn’t Appreciate the Uganda Movie Industry Enough” Young Actress Sophie Nalukenge Speaks Out

We recently saw the rise of Pearl magic prime and the release of Ugandan thriller, “Girl in a yellow jumper” which by the way is going to be the first Ugandan film to ever stream on Nextflix; its vivid that the Ugandan movie industry is steadily growing to its own shape.

It’s MTN Pulse’s pleasure to let you meet young actress, Sophie Nalukenge from the outskirts of Kampala.
When we asked her who she describes herself as, she blushed with a beautiful shy smile saying, “Sophie Nalukenge is simple, humble, friendly and so emotional girl!”

Sophie is a newly graduated journalist and an actress who has featured in a number of outstanding Ugandan movies including the KYADDALA masterpiece.

So y’all are used to seeing people get inspired to become whoever they are, but Sophie is quite different!
“I was not inspired to join the movie industry! I just have passion for it just like someone listening to music as his hobby, I take acting as my hobby.”

During her free time, Sophie says she is either watching movies, listening to Music, or simply traveling.

So, what does the dark chocolate actress think about the Ugandan movie industry?
“I am proud of our industry in relation to where we began and where we are right now. The industry is progressing though we are not being recognized and mostly by the media. They give most of their attention to  musicians, whilst our actors win big awards but they aren’t even mentioned on any of the stations, for example Joan Agaba recently won the AMA best actress award and she was recognized in countries like Nigeria yet here where she comes from, the country that she made proud didn’t recognize her. So that’s something the media should put right. We need to be recognized as actors.”

Here are the few words she has left for her fellow youth:
“To the young people out there all I can say is “Just be you “! As young people we admire a lot of people out there but reality is we can never be them; we can only be like them. You needn’t be like anyone else; just strive for your own success.”
