The True Meaning of Easter Monday

Latest News | 2021-04-05

Easter is one of the most anticipated holidays for many pulsers because they get to have a break off from work and school for four uninterrupted days- Good Friday to Easter Monday. From our Sunday school classes or Religious education classes, we all know that the holiday is celebrated every year to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

On Good Friday, we remember the crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary and three days later, he rose from the dead, which we celebrate on Easter Sunday. As far as the holiday is concerned that’s where many of us stop, we actually don’t know why Easter Monday exists.

Biblically, the day after Jesus rose from the dead, he returned to the earth and proved to the world that he was the true son of God. Many had doubted him all through the Gospels in the Bible but when he rose again, there was no doubt whatsoever that he was no ordinary man but the son of God hence the significance of the Holiday.

The early Orthodox church also refers to Easter Monday as ‘The Renewal Monday’ or the ‘Bright Monday’. This is literally a translation of the new life that Jesus brought when he rose from the dead.

The day is celebrated by eating eggs from the Easter egg hunt that is normally done on Easter Sunday because eggs are a sign of new life that is represented by the resurrection of Jesus.
